About Hornedo Band

The Hornedo Middle School Band has established a reputation of dedication, responsibility, discipline and outstanding musical accomplishments.  Concepts such as leadership, responsibility, teamwork and commitment are valuable life skills that are utilized as part of instruction every day.  The Band Program is 280 students strong.  Classes are divided into four levels: Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Honor Band.  Each one is geared towards the student’s stage of musical development.  Jazz Band is also offered as a class for 2nd and 3rd year band students.

Musical opportunities are very important in the development of each band student.  The HMS Band has consistently had the most students make the TMEA Region 22 Middle School All Region Band, receive 1st divisions at the EPISD Middle School Solo and Ensemble Contest and make the TMEA MS Jazz Band.  In full ensembles, all bands consistently receive sweepstakes at UIL Concert/Sightreading Contests, Band Festivals and Jazz Festivals.  In 2023, the HMS Honor Band placed 1st in Area A at the TMEA 3C Honor Band Competition and advanced to the State Semi-Finals. The Honor Band was also named as a Commended Winner in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Competition in 2023.  The Jazz Band was chosen as the MS invited group and performed at the 2023 TMEA Convention.  They were also chosen as an invited Jazz Band at the Midwest International Convention in Chicago in 2023.

Hornedo Middle School is a proud feeder to Franklin High School.  The Franklin High School "Star of the West" Band has established itself as a competitive 6A band program with students participating in marching band, concert band, jazz band, winter guard and indoor percussion.  The Franklin band has a longstanding legacy of success, largely due to the hard work of students, directors, parents and administrators. Directors in the FHS Band cluster continue to pursue musical excellence while making sure that all feel  part of one big band family.
